Our Achievements

Since 1989 AMPTO has had many significant achievements for its members and the industry. Below are some key achievements:

Provide members 100% fees waiver for 2 years during COVID.

Successfully proposed and promoted site Stewardship activity funding initiatives, namely the Tourism Activation and Reef Protection Initiative and the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative totaling $18.1M

Secured privately owned Marina berth fee support – totaling over $5M

Successfully engaged government to waiver the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park’s Environmental Management Charge until 30 June 2023.

  • Legally challenged and stopped the disposal of capital dredge spoil within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
  • Had the GST on EMC dropped in 2003 and saved the industry over $3.5 million in back taxes plus penalties and saved the industry more than $1 million per year since. A total saving of more than $20 million.
  • We have mitigated the adverse effects of WH&S on our industry over three separate reviews of the Code of Practice.
  • Reduced the proposed fee schedules by AMSA to a manageable level.
  • Successful representation to ensure minimal adverse effects by AMSA on our industry.

Legacy founders of the Crown of Thorns Starfish control program, which has grown to become the platinum standard for COT’s control around the world.

Co-founded the Master Reef Guide Program. In partnership with GBRMPA and TEQ, we successfully campaigned and financially supported the establishment of MRG programs.

Successfully engaged the Government with a consortium of other off-road users to re-establish the fuel rebate.

Ensured significant savings and established a 10% cap on increased lease charges for Island resorts.
